Thursday, 20 August 2009 11:08 Written by Justin Fischer Check out all the winners right here! I awoke this morning at 1pm, bleary-eyed and disoriented. It felt like someone had been splitting rails on my head while I was sleeping. At the moment, I can scarcely conjure up a coherent thought so bear with me as I try to piece together the events of last night. To the best of my memory it was quite a rager, folks--a crowded, chaotic catharsis after six weeks of stiff competition. M1NT Club was packed--a crowd over 900 strong that drank the bar dry. Who won? Well, you'll have to wait for the next exciting issue of that's Shanghai if you want to find out. So let's talk about who didn't win instead... There were a lot of upsets this year. Some heavily entrenched dynasties were shattered. Who would've thought, for instance, that anyone but the Westin could win the the award for Best Hotel Sunday Brunch? This has to be the first year in awards history that they didn't clinch it. Wagas, another perennial champion, was also beat in the contest for Best Cafe--a huge surprise. Then there are the contestants that didn't win, but should have. Readers, some of your choices disappointed me. First off, the winner of the award for Best Beer is a fine place, but come on. It's an uninspired choice--so uninspired, in fact, that they themselves couldn't be bothered to come to the party and pick up their award. Why on Earth didn't you pick Southern Barbarian or Kaiba? The same goes for the restaurant that you voted as Best Sichuan/Hunan. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine place. But don't you people ever go anywhere else to eat? I mean, have you ever been to Yuxin Chuancai? As for the Best Theme Night award, there can be only one explanation for why Rack your Brains didn't win. You simply don't like losing to me and my superior trivia skills. That's got to be it. And, finally, why didn't you guys pick Stiller's for Best Fine Dining? If you haven't been there, you need to check it out--great service, great view, amazing food. But, as they say, 'of tastes there is no dispute.' Nevertheless, to all who attended, thanks for partying with us! To all who voted, thanks for voicing your opinion! To all the nominees, thanks for keeping us well fed and drunk most of the time! Read about who won in our upcoming issue of that's Shanghai!
