Thursday, 11 March 2010 02:03 Written by Xinlei Wang Meaning: People who spend all their income every month and have no savings at all This is an expression created by young Chinese netizens in recent years, to describe people who don’t have long-term financial plans and spend their entire income every month. ‘Yùe’ means ‘Month’, ‘Guāng’ means ‘Using Up’ and ‘Zú’ refers to a group of people, as in the word ‘Zhŏng Zú’ (Race). The most interesting thing about this new slang expression is that ‘Yùe Guāng’ together has the original meaning of ‘Moonlight’. In the big cities of China, such as Beijing and Shanghai, Yùe Guāng Zú have become very widespread among urban youngsters due to a combination of changing social values and rising living expenses. Example: Justin: Hey Johnny, can you lend me 50 bucks? John: What?! Today is only the 20th. You’re such a “Yùe Guāng Zú”!

Article says about 400 new golf courses have gone up since 2004 - despite a moratorium on course construction - making China the only nation still in the midst of a golf boom.
