Wednesday, 09 December 2009 05:12 Written by Cordelia O'Hare Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat, drinks choices change, just like that (imagine a ‘snapping’ sound). Wine goes mulled, or from flat to sparkling. Coffee goes Irish. Beer… well that stays the same. But one seasonal sensory experience that never fails to remind of the time of year is the sweet, tangy, citrusy yumminess of Grand Marnier. The alchemical combination of perfectly aged cognac and Caribbean-sun-dried orange peel creates Christmas in a bottle. The traditional seasonal limited edition ‘Irresistible’ bottle is out now, and we thought we would give you some tips on how to put it to good use…. Scrumptious cocktail:1.Cool cocktail glass with ice. 2.Add 50 ml of GM to cocktail shaker, 10 ml of lemon juice, 3 spoons of strawberry puree and 50 ml apple juice 3.Top with ice and shake it like a Polaroid picture. 4.Strain into glass (after removing ice) and serve with an orange peel garnish. If this is a little above either your ways or means, a generous tot with a bit of tonic and slice of orange slips down a treat. Substitute Grand Marnier in your usual Cosmo, Margarita or B52 for a twist. Of course, neat is always a very good option.
