With Christmas upon us once again, everyone in town is cranking up the heat for the annual Christmas parties. But ShanghaiExpat has other ideas... who needs Christmas when you can hit one of the biggest annual parties in town, the ShanghaiExpat 9th anniversary party.
This year they are hitting up the new JC Billiards club for their big party 'Bump' (check all the info here) coming up on Saturday, December 12. All the details are at the end of the email. We caught up with ShanghaiExpat's Sales & Marketing Director Ocean Fu to get the lowdown on what's happening...
So, this is becoming an annual party for you guys, what's the thinking behind it?
Yeah, we are getting 9 years old! We really appreciated all the supports from our members for the past 9 years to make the website a big success. So, it's time for a big celebration, especially we are going to launch our completely new interface at the same time. We want our members to be there to experience this great moment with us!
So what's going to happen at the party? And who is going?
As it's "9" years, our Maketing team finally came up with the idea to bring a 9-ball theme party. We know there are too many nightlife parties in town, but you wont find a 9-ball billiard party with casino games and live DJ very often.
Our advertisers, media friends, and of course members will always be at our anniversary party to celebrate with us and experience this great moment.
How are your 9 ball skills Ocean?
lol...good question! I guess it really depends on my mood. I used to play a lot of pool when I was in Canada, but talk about 9 ball skills, you will need to see at the party! :)
Who would win in a game between you and professional pool player / JC Club owner Jennifer Chen?
Well, maybe I would have a little bit chance if she got drunk. :)
Can anyone challenge Jennifer to a game on the night?
Sure, if you have enough confidence!
The new web site is nearly here... Are you excited?
Yeah, we cant wait to see the new site. Our whole team has been working for several months now, on converting all aspects of the Shanghaiexpat.com site to a new software platform as we added up lots of new applications and functions to the new site. We are just about ready to role it out.
What can we expect from the new site?
It has re-launched the brand-new website to cover more information about dynamic city of Shanghai as well as to provide a more interactive platform for members to share and communicate with each other.
1. Better Channel organization to zero in on the type of information you are seeking as a member.
2. Friend List to keep track of people you want to connect with.
3. Groups with powerful tools so that members and organizations can organize according to interests.
4. Update to the forum software so that it is up to date and more attractive.
5. Better events management, discount coupon management, and listings.
How long has Shanghai Expat been around? And where can you see you guys in 3 years time?
We started from 2000 as a personal blog by Michael Connolly from USA, so it's our 9th anniversary now. As more and more expat coming to Shanghai right now, I believe ShanghaiExpat will be the first resource for them to make their life easier in Shanghai. We are also planing to expand to other cities after we launch the new site.
Any big plans for the Expo?
After the new interface launch, we will open a section exclusive to Expo content, and also we have right to use the exclusive news and stories about expo from the official Expo Magazine, which has gained great popularity in China. It will be much easier for people all around the world to access expo information.
