Family Guide
Tuesday, 07 July 2009 06:07 Written by Daisy Wakefield Common household appliances – such as microwaves, water dispensers, vacuums, toaster ovens – can be found at a number of electronic chain stores. Gome, Suning, and Yolo are the largest of these big box stores in town. Grocery chains, including Lotus and Carrefour, also carry electronic goods. Prices and selection are broadly comparable at all outlets. The more ‘Western’ varieties of appliances – coffee machines and grinders, food processors, mixers – can be more elusive. For these, Best Buy is the best bet. Actually, Best Buy is probably the best bet for all-round one-stop convenience. It stocks everything for the well-equipped kitchen: expresso machines, bread machines, full-size ovens, and even in-sink garbage disposals. It carries items for the rest of the house too, everything from electric toothbrushes to air filters. Furthermore, its service warranty is top notch, although it only takes returns if there is a quality issue. The Hongjin Lu bird and flower market houses several kitchenware stores that sell certain relatively obscure appliances, such as waffle irons and griddles. They also carry wares for export: ceramic dishes and cups, porcelain bone china, entertainment dishware, baking supplies, and specialized kitchen tools.
